Hi everyone. Time to check out the forum again, with a new album on it's way. I see from the dates on the replies that I have not missed much. Is it the heat which are to blame, or are we collectively unhappy with the title of the album (which boiles down to the use of the word "get"..." remember that we are not that many native English speaking people here markp, we do our best), and the presale? Well, also I must say I very much like the new cover design of "Get Lucky" that can be seen everywhere in the internet (amazon, Guy´s site) accept from this here"official" page...
When I saw that it was updated this morning I was very sure I would find the track list. But no! How long??

Thanks for your reply, SuperVal, can't get excited about it though I acknowledge your source, my English teacher always drummed it into me that the word should not be used.

Seriously, it is the one word in the English language that I absolutely hate, and I always avoid it. Always have, always will. I challenge anyone to find the word in any of my posts, other than quoting...

I found this short description on the site "Damn fine day", written by a person called Gary Moore. (I don´t know if he is the one Gary Moore.) I thought this lines over and cannot add anything to it, I think it is a great short way of telling the meaning of "Love Over Gold":

In my 1969 edition of the Concise Oxford Dictionary the verb "get" has a whole page devoted to it's meaning. Very briefly:

1. Obtain, earn, gain, win, procure, fetch, entrap or master...............

So, markp, there is no such word as "get " in the English language? The COD seems to think there is.

I do, understand how you feel about it, though, because it can sound ugly in some contexts, but I'm sure that even you have not gone...

It is a word that I always avoid using. Those who use English as their mother tongue (i.e. those who don't struggle to translate if it isn't their mother tongue) can always use a better replacement. It's a bit like swearing. I won't mention words here, because we are a family forum, but I can swear with the best of people. There is always an alternative word to use that is better English that expresses your emotions though.

Very interesting markp and I do tend to agree with you (as I am quite a pedantic bore too )but you talk about stripping the English language to latin. Wouldn't it be eeeerrr... latin then?English, is a "living language", constantly evolving. Sometimes not for the better (like when people use "is" after you instead of are), but I wouldn't put "get" in that category,...

Now we know the title of the new album. Usually, when MK releases a new album, we discuss whether we like the title or not. Until now I haven't seen one critical word about the title Get Lucky. What do you think? Do you like the title? I do!
