Does anyone hope that MK will one day tour again with Sir Eric Clapton, or at least record an album for future genrations?? I would love to see Eric at New Road (Worcester Cricket) or on Halfords Lane (West Bromwich Albion) for a show, including MK, Guy & the rest of the band. Mark doesn't need that sort of 'gimmick' although the ELH was a sidetrack - it seemed that it was something he had to get out of his system.

Posts: 538 (05/05/08 15:04:22) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	I used to be a Clapton fan, but these days he bores me to tears and his last few albums have been abyssmal eg Reptile and the Robert Johnson albums. "The Road to Escondido" was a good album, but it was really a JJ Cale album as JJ wrote ten of the tracks and Eric was barely heard! It had "J. J. Cale" written all over it. Eric is nowhere near the songwriter that MK is either! I think that in the form he is at the moment, MK would run rings around EC! No doubt Eric is a great guitarist, but nowadays everything is very samey. Mark has much more charisma than Eric too! I can't really see them doing an album collaboration, maybe just the odd charity gig sometime. BTW Markp, I think the "Sir" tag should be reserved for MK!

Seems that EC is no longer "in vogue" not withstanding the fact that he is about to sell out stadiums in the UK. I saw him once at the Cricket in Worcester, watching Botham & Hick. He seemed to be a very nice man. The Red Lion in Spetchley was always the place to be. Apparently EC turned up with just a guitar on a few occaisions, and played for Botham. Can you imagine witnessing that?? It's only 5 miles from where I live, and I missed it! grrrrrrrrr M

Lots of terrible bands sell out stadiums. I would much rather see MK close-up in a more intimate venue any day! " There are and have been many bands and boys/girls groups, but only the greatest (a few) are still performancing after 30 years! I'm afraid what Val said of EC could be said of MK also. These guys are (and I don't mean this in a mean-spirited way) old, rich, married, and settled down, and their music reflects that. Neither of them writes or plays music with much emotion in it anymore - at least not like when they were younger and hungrier.

"Hick" is one of the greatest English Cricket Batsman that has ever lived, and when Elton John played at Worcs 2 years ago, he dedicated "Don't let the sun go down on me" to him. What an accolade. He is also a very nice fella. I have a signed and dedicated print from him(which he gave to me personally) hanging in the study, next to my Straits Gold Disc. It's arguable which I value the most. I don't know where this thread is going, but it seems to be developing into a "we don't care about ticket sales, we are happy with small venues". Stadium tours don't count!! It's an interesting concept, because the artists will probably agree with you all on that one. I'm just wondering though whether the Accountants/bean counters see it the same way??? Mark

Is "Hick" short for something? eg Hickling? Hickson?....... TJ - Not much emotion in MK's music? I think a lot of folk, including me, who have just seen his concerts may just disagree with you. Have you seen MK live recently? His performances and songs, especially on this tour, are full of emotion! Even if I never went to his concerts I would be moved by his music! Time that he should use for his own stuff now. He spent time in working with other people far too long in the 80/90s, and that had maybe good reasons, but nowadays he is so inspired, so productive and so full of songs, that any stop in this record-tour-record-cycle wouldn´t be something that I like. Emmylou was special, because, to be honest, most of the stuff was written by MK himself, I even think that "Beachcombing" and "Diamonds" and "Beyond my wildest dreams" are left-overs from the shangri-la sessions and that Emmy just recorded the backing vocals for it. So working with EC (or any other big name) wouldn´t find my interest because it would mean one or two years waiting for the real stuff. Of course I have ONE small exception: Bob Dylan! Love Expresso

Read Beefy's biography, he mentions Eric a lot at the Cricket ground (and on his last world tour). Better still, come down to Worcester and I'll buy you lunch, and introduce you to the people. Loads of Muscians as well. Roy Wood is a regular, and (sadly) Clifford T Ward passed away just up the road. George Harrison owned a place just down the road at one point.

From deep within the soul. KTGC seems to me more introspective and explores the souls of his subjects with great emotion. It's not flamboyant or overstated. It's not pushed. But it is there. Place Where we Used to Live, from RPD is one of the more emotion filled songs--at least for me--that I've heard from him. It seems to me that over the years he has explored the depth of feeling of his subjects more and more. The emotion becomes more haunting with both lyric and melody. His melodies have always moved me (ah, Tunnel of Love again) and they do still. He simply grows stronger and stronger as a poet and 'painter' of souls.
