Discussion is allowed Marie! We were all wanting to have this one. I admit, why shouldn't I be honest to myself. And I don't have a problem to share
with you that I really looked forward to this one. And I don't think we have to blame chia123 for this! He got something (or maybe he recorded it, I
don't know, as far as I know it's not known) and wanted to share. He apologized and removed it, so he has given a proper reaction to Guy's mail I
think.
And don't forget, when everyone of us look in their house, you will find a lot of recordings (downloaded, traded on CDR, also some soundboards among them, wherever they may come from) and also pressed bootlegs. They always were illegal, but don't blame me that I have some. I also have bought everything official from the beginning, including all vinyl (except a couple of singles from other releases than my countries release) and CD's and DVD's. So I don't feel I do something wrong to the band. So almost everything official I have, I have double. For example, I also bought the vinyl single of TLWNF and I am looking for the vinylalbum of K2GC, didn't bump into it yet, so if someone has it double, I like to pay normal price for it ;-) All the best, Ingrid |

I think that everyone of us would be very pleased to pay for some of this concerts as officials, like we did in 2005...
But in musical terms, we are like kids, everyone of us desired to have that bootleg, we saw the candy and we wanted to taste it. and, why not? Are we causing any harm? We already have all the official releases, we already paid for more than two or three tickets to go to the concerts... I can´t only think in one. Lack of respect to MK´s policy regarding recordings, and it´s an important one. Isn´t it? The fact is that probably most of us already have an In Ear Monitor recording from Los Angeles 2001 that was obtained in the same way this London one was recorded, and I don´t remember any kind of discussion when that one saw the light of day, to me is exactly the same. |

Hi Lee,
Yes, I did ask you to trade--several days ago. That's why I mentioned in my post today that I would, indeed, liked to have this recording--before I knew that there were problems with it. But when I discovered that it was causing so many issues and that it was frowned upon by the band, and that it could lead to a ban on recordings, I mailed you again--before Guy's comments-- and told you never mind. I hadn't heard from you, so I figured it was all fine. I am sorry to see you disappointed and angry about all this, and sorry if my comments have contributed to that. I'm sure that your intentions were good. It's just that it all went "south" when we realized that the recording was not--oh, for lack of better words--acceptable. Truly, hindsight is pretty cool. Wish we all had it "in time" But, we still have the opportunity to fix mistakes, fortunately for all of us, or we'd all be dead meat on the prairie. Hindsight enables foresight, luckily for us. And I keep editing my original posts because I'm trying to say and do the right thing--and fix my grammar mistakes. . .
I'm also sorry that you took my request as "telling" you what to do. It was merely a request so that we could put this all behind us. As to who I am? I'm IrisRose, a California girl who makes mistakes like the rest of us. Perhaps my forum page has a glitch, but when I asked you to do that, those posts were on the thread. I also asked you that as a moderator, even though I don't moderate this particular topic. I did not mean in any way to abuse my privileges as a mod. Anyway, sorry to have offended you. Truly. I did not mean it that way. I still say that the honorable thing to do is not share the recording.

OK, I'm genuinely disappointed at the tone this thread has taken.
I think it's fair to say that chia123 acted with the best of intentions, but the band have now made their views very clear - the capture of in-ear monitor streams is unaceptable. Please try to keep things civil.

Dusty, I think it´s the shame because steal sound signal from the mixing desk to the in ear monitors is not acceptable, and we don´t need that MK, Guy, PC etc
told us or make us clear to know this. At least not me...
That´s why I said to me the IEM recording from LA 2001 is exactly the same that this one, but the difference is that one was made in a private way (the same person has three or four more recordings like that) without any discussion and they didn´t noticed, and chia123 told us to everybody and as we were waiting for a soundboard recording, we got excited and finally the info arrived to MK, Guy and PC. If anyone needs that MK, PC or Guy tell us what is right and what is wrong, well, if it´s ok for you, it´s ok for me, but when the LA 2001 became available, I remember that I though the same "This is a stolen sound signal from the mixing desk" and I don´t need nobody to tell me that, I know it because it´s just logical. Have a good night!!!! |

Am I missing something or did GF or MK say that in-ear recordings were not allowed before this recording was made. That's what some people seem to be
alluding to, so can someone show me where this statement is, because I was completely unaware of it. Or maybe everyone suddenly thinks that in-ear recordings
are not on since GF says so. In that case - I'm in the same boat as you.
Thanks, Lee |

C'mon guys, time to calm this down. It doesn't matter what was happening seven years ago, its what is happening now that
we need to concern ourselves with and the band is obviously very upset about this kind of audio recording. Its up to everyone to respect this now it is known.

Apologies all around if this isn't seen as "discussion" material, but the 180 degree turn some Internet users will take when the atmosphere changes is incredible. This more or less demonstrates the very limited credibility these "discussions" have to offer, if any. |

Oh crap, when I wrote ">>Dusty, I think it´s the shame because steal sound signal" I mean THE SAME and not THE SHAME... It´s incredible how
change the meaning of a sentence when you type wrong a word. English is not my main language so forgive my silly mistakes
I don´t know why but I´m having trouble editing my posts :-( |

I have a great pleasure to be able to listen to a quality recording from 2001 that surfarced years after the tour ended. Does it harms Mark each time I put
these illegal recordings in my player and enjoy the sound of them?
Who I should thank for withdrawing the official 2001 live and keep me out from having a great time again and again all these years? Now that I can enjoy at last a sbd feed from that tour should I feel guilty because it comes from an un-authorized source? If the 2008 recordings ends in closed boxes or if we get again an "OTN like" recording, who among us will be still agreeing that nobody cacth the IEM feed and share it? Who will pretends not wanting it because it is again Mark's wish? We do not intend to harm the band but when time comes to get something we can not get otherwise, hard to resist. Stealth recording exists since recorder exists. Whether audinece recording are allowed or not, if IEM transmission are not well secured they will be captured anyway. And we fans will be looking after these unless we find an acceptable alternative. The answer to prevent illegal recording is to put official ones out on the market, complete and uncut. Crowfly was a mess but other bands like Pearl Jam, Genesis, The Allman Brothers Band, The Who, Gove And Mule to name a few proved that it is possible to make their fan happy ones... |

The upshot of all this fuss seems to indicate (to me, at least) that an official recording of some sort is indeed forthcoming. My hunch is that if the IEM had
been held off until after any official releases it wouldn't have been such a big issue. That's the problem with having extremely lenient/liberal
policies on recording--when you suddenly want to make them more restrictive it creates stress.
I've always felt that the free sharing of shows on this forum was wonderful, but I've also also always thought that it probably exceeded what MK and his management would prefer. Still, it is strange to be at this place where we are on the verge of keeping the recordings 'secret' again, although I can't see any other way out now that the official recording policies have been revised, then revised again--and now apparently to be revised yet again. I may be an MK junkie, but I have plenty of other recordings by him already and I enjoy plenty of other artists. I don't need a high-quality soundboard recording of this year's tour--but I really WANT one. As for the digtal downloads end of this, they obviously don't know how to do it properly, or profitably, or both. I don't think it's because they don't want to release the recordings, it's just not a high priority and no doubt doesn't seem 'worth the effort'. Also, don't forget that after a recording is burned to cd anyone can make as many copies as they want--if there was a way to make sure that everyone paid I think MK and management would pursue the digital download thing more aggressively ( or at least a bit....). As for me, I would buy one or two shows just as I did last time. Why would I purchase every show when they are essentially the same setlist every night? That's not much incentive to buy them all--if there was a little variety then maybe I would want them all.....but what am I saying...there are no shows to buy anyway. Keep Knopflerin'

I'll annoy someone yet again, but I have to say this. First, yes I have a lot of recordings. I was and still am under the impression that these were
allowed by the band. My great concern is now that all future audio will be banned because of soundboard "hacking" issue. Don't attack me on
vocabulary, please. As I read through these threads, I find more and more argument, unfortunately, for a ban--which would break my heart. The excuses and
selfishness of "who care what Knopfler and company want, what I want is more important." Never mind all the years of generosity; never mind the
consideration by the band of the fans; never mind that reasonable requests by the band have been blatantly ignored. It's just 'me me me." All this
business of 'it's easy to get around the restrictions, so why not?" and "I want it, and that justifies my lack of respect for the band "
is discouraging to me. Where is the high regard and respect that we owe this band? There are a lot of posters on the forum who do see things from the
band's point of view. Wish there were more of them.
Yes, I'll probably edit this post, if TK doesn't delete it before then. And I wouldn't blame him one bit. I'm just tired of the lame justifications. The band has banned video recordings because of misuse, and now they are about to ban audios. Okay, so someone made a mistake. It was an honest mistake. But the high defiance and "I want what I want" and "who gives a rip about honor" is beginning to turn my stomach. And I realize that when "give anger you get anger" but someone needs to consider the feelings of this band. Period. Without them we wouldn't have ANY recordings. |

I sincerely don't understand the whole thing
I mean all these recordings circulate among 0.01% of total fans and these are the same guys who buy all official items and 1 or 5 or 10 tickets each tour,so where exactly is the problem? if someone hijacked into their system it should be a problem between the band and Mr Chia123,not between the band and all worldwide fans |

Correct, in this instance. But now PCM want to ensure that it does not happen again. And the indications are that they may decide that the best way to achieve
this is to ban ALL electronic recording equipment from gigs.
