I know it would have a sort of country sound....and that a lot of you arent too fond of that sort of sound but i think a collaberation between MK and Jerry
Douglas would be something special.....

I have often wondered what a collaboration with Bruce Hornsby would produce. He is another consummate artist and a fantastic keyboardist.

I would like him to do an album with Mary-Chapin Carpenter. She has a beautifully warm voice, which I like much more than Emmylou's and also has recorded
at least one of Mark's songs (The Bug). Matt Rollings frequently plays on her albums (another one out very soon), and her lyrics are great. I have been a
big fan of hers since I first heard her album "Come On, Come On" with Matt's amazing piano and then I bought everything I could that was
available. I could see them making a great duets album together.

I also agree with Jerry Douglas and Bruce Hornsby. In an effort to suggest someone different, I'll go with: Natalie Merchant

I still think EC would be a good choice for this. EC certainly needs the songwriting help--MK is one of the best songwriters going. I'm not sure how their
voices would mesh, but it seems like it could work. Such a compilation could even produce few extended guitar solos, or better, duets--that would be a welcome
change!
Honestly tho, it's hard to get excited over this. He will do what he wants--period. I'd be curious to hear him with Moya Brennan, the lead voice of the Celtic group Clannad. I think the Mary Chapin Carpenter collaberation mentioned earlier could work--she did a nice job covering 'The Bug'. I'd like to hear him do some more work with Van Morrison (obviously I enjoyed The Last Laugh). Whatever he does, it will be interesting, solo or with someone else. As long as it's something (I think he's due for another soundtrack....) Keep Knopflerin'

Interestingly, Bruce Hornsby just recently reiterated his interest in working with Mark. In one interview, Hornsby noted that his standard answer for who he
would most like to collaborate with for an album is Mark, and in another, he said this:
Reporter: So you talk about not making a lasting career on pop radio, but according to the guy who just drove the last dumptruck full of hundred dollar bills up to your house, you're still doing pretty good on the royalties from the songs you wrote that other musicians put out on Top 40 radio. Hornsby: Well, that's right. Having that early kind of success as a hit radio guy, it sets you up to go down different paths. And different people deal with that in different ways. Most people try and continue to have hits, almost everyone. But there are some exceptions. I think Mark Knopfler is sort of like me in the sense he had some early hits, but it was never about that. Most people who have hits, that's all they can do. But I'm an old music school guy. I'm interested in doing a lot of things, so I use it as a springboard to work with a lot of people. But I never went looking for that either. I just kept getting calls from all these great people who I admired who were fans of my music. So the Top 40 success got my music out there to an extent I started getting these calls. That was the best part of it for me--getting the calls from musicians I always admired who I ended up getting to work with. |

Thanks, Hroggor. I'm a big Bruce Hornsby fan (Spirit Trail is an amazing album) and I'd missed that interview. Bruce and Mark are quite similar in that
they both go their own way regardless, and always make incredible music.

A folk record (or anything else) together with Paul Simon would be awesome!

I am still dreaming of a duetalbum with David Gilmour and I'm not alone in this I see ;-)

You are not alone :-)
My favs are: David Gilmour, Bob Dylan (why not one more time? Slow Train & Infidels were really awesome) and B.B. King (> "Riding With The King" is the best fact, why MK should do another duet album). OK, these are really old guys, but from the younger ones, only the Peppers would come to my mind. Love Stadium Arcadium, every single song. MK would fit very well IMO. |

2 choices. Either an EC album, which I would prefer.
If not, lets see a North East album, with MK, Clarky, Sting, Chris Rea, Bryan Ferry, Jimmy Nail and a few others. That would be a great album and tour. |

Hehe Jacki, yes, I'm incorrigible
Let's say an acoustic record
with Paul Simon and an electric album with David Gilmour. Ahh, MK and Gilmour!

other Strat kings that may sound good with MK, Mick Taylor, Jeff Beck, Mike Campbell, Mick Jones, although a bit too rockin' for MK's "Second
Act".Jimmy Dale is a classic player..., tho dn't know if he is still around..and well, Robert Cray is more than competent,...and lately I have begun
to apreciate some of John Mayer's clever little songs...but all the same he is a good player..if a bit sappy..I used to listen to Rory Gallagher when I was
a teen, not sure if he is still around..the only woman I know of that plays a Strat is Susan Tedechi and she can play!

I was listening to a few James Taylor songs the other day and it struck me that he would be a great choice for MK to work with. Sailing to Philadelphia worked
extremely well, and James has a unique finger-picking guitar style that could compliment MK's. Just for fun, add EC to the mix and you have the potential
for something very special!
