Hearing MK in unusual places |

I was at a draft horse show this weekend. The events I attended were driving events: the big guys in tandem, four in hand, four abreast eight in hand, and
so on. They are shown at walk, trot, reverse diagonal, and backing. They are glorious creatures. Anyway, each competitive event was set to upbeat music,
played by a local pianist. To my great delight, at the start of the four abreast event, I recognized the first three notes of Sultans of Swing! And then,
during a demonstration event between competitions, there was the outro to What it Is! The pianist must be a Knopfler fan. I wonder how many of us among
ranchers, farmers, horse breeders, horse showers, trainers, and generally horse aficianados, were Knopflerados as well. There were two, at least: the pianist
and me!

I was walking through my city centre last week. There is a chap who busks outside a certain shop.
I could hear it from the distance, my ears pricked up, (like they do when you hear ANYTHING Knopfler related)
It was just him with an acoustic guitar. About 20-30 people were listening. He was playing Romeo & Juliet. I stood watching him. It gave me goosebumps, especially watching everyone watching him. They looked like they were loving it, some mouthing the words. It felt great. I gave him a couple of pound, and showed him my Knopfler tattoo.! He thought it was great, and we stood talking for a few minutes. Turns out he's a big MK fan. It was on my way to work, so a nice start to my day.

I was at a shopping mall afew years back, and i saw this girl which i really liked working at a stall so i went up and asked her if she was selling ice-cream
and she said no,but she gave me the warmest smile and i stupidly left, as i was walking out i wanted so badly to go back and speak to her so i made my way back
when i got there she was kissing some guy so i just stood outside and as i was standing there MK's Romeo and juliet came on.

Walking through my local high street we have a 3 group busking trio ( one on electric bass, one on acoustic and one guy on electric) anyhoo - they have their
usual setlist which one of the tunes is Sultans. Lead singing is done by Mr Acoustic letting Mr Electric do his thing. In fairness to them it was actually not
a bad version esp the ending - the guy didnt woos out at all - but actually nailed the ending perfectly - i was actually quite impressed...

We have a holiday home in Thailand, and whilst driving to some friends for dinner i stopped for petrol (at a little independant filling station). When I went i
to pay the owner had pictures of MK all over the place, even had "sailing to Phil" as shop background music. The missus asked me why i took so long
paying for petrol and wasnt impressed with my excuse that "i was asking for directions darling"

Hey these are great stories! Nigel is that guy also living in Norwich? If so, he should have joined us at the party!
I often hear songs of DS at the supermarket like Sultans of Swing! I always have to remind myself where I am, otherwise I would start dancing and singing with that song!.............. People might think I am crazy!
Ohhh btw in August I had a surgery in hospital and when I lay in bed and got medicins I told the nurse I would like to listen to some music to relax. So I put the headset in my mobile phone and while I closed my eyes, I heard Mark whispering sweet words in my ears! Hey it felt good to have Mark with me in bed, although ..........just for a
few minutes, because it seemed I got a sleeping pill and quick didn't realize anymore that I was alive!

Last week there was a current affaires program at TV about
the financial crisis. There was a discussion about banks and shareholders who lost a lot of money. At the end of the program a little part of the song
"Money For Nothing" was played! .............. Although it is terrible for the people who lost money, I thought it was funny to hear that
song!

Don't know if this counts and sorry if it's a bit "un PC", but I was driving to work the other day and I had my window rolled
down whilst listening to "Follow Me Home". Still listening and singing along I came to a junction and as I stopped a rather large lady was crossing the road as I was waiting and walked right up to the window before slowly going around the back of my car, but as she approached the window not realising she was there, I turned to her and sang the words from the song ... "yeah .. you really like to eat". Oh dear it was so unintended and I went a bit red. No offense the joke was on me and some of my friends have relatives who have talked to people who are largish. |

Last night I went to see "Burn After Reading" and as I went to the ladies' room after the movie, I suddenly noticed there was music playing. It
was quite noisy and I couldn't understand the lyrics, just a distinctive guitar playing. When I was back in the cinema's foyer again, the music was
still on (well, they obviously have speakers everywhere!) and I suddenly realised it was "When It Comes To You". I couln't help but grin: It was
too odd to hear an MK song in the ladies' room!

Often when we hear Mark singing, we wish he was standing besides us, BUT this time ...............I think it felt great knowing it was only his voice coming from the speakers! Fieneke

And Sky Sports are using Money for Nothing to trail Saturday's $20M winner take all Twenty20 cricket match between a West Indies team and England. Since
this is by far the largest amount of money ever on a single game of cricket, perhaps the music was chosen by someone with a sense of humour!

I have such a memorable story. It was the most common place for me - my home, but the situation was very unusual and extreme. It happened some years ago,
when I had a very beautiful pure-breed male great dane dog called 'Adrian". We had an appointment with a female to mate them and it was better to be
at home. When the main work was done, we had to wait a bit ( for a 20 min or more ) to finish fully the event. You don't know
Well, they were really nice puppies supported in such a extraordinary way by MK's warm singing and touching guitar solo... |

Hello all, Iknow its not actually hearing MK or DS in the music sense but thought I'd mention all the same. We have the second series of a UK Comedy
starring and written by Jack Dee called Lead balloon on BBC 2 every thursday night. Watched the first episode today (recorded from last week ) and it starts
with Jack Dee doing an auction and the first Item is a MK style guitar (resonator??? Brothers In Arms cover!!) It sells for about £11000!!! It just pricked up
my ears hearing jack dee saying Marks name! Anyway it certainly wasn't the correct one from the album cover but was a shiny type one lol ( I'm sure one
of you will know exactly what it is! ) Just thought I'd give it a mention!
