My apologies. Today it took a little longer for me to connect with my Jacki contact. BTW, this
angel's name is Becky (AKA Becca or Rebecca). LOL, if you have ever chatted online with Jacki, she has probably
'invoked' Becky's name on more than one occasion! Becky has been an amazingly wonderful friend to Jacki,
having spent countless days with her in the ICU throughout these seven weeks in addition to overseeing things at Jacki's house and helping with her
personal business.

Jacki update - Saturday AM, August 8th | ||

Becky called with some positive news to report from her visit with Jacki late yesterday. Jacki's central IV line has been
removed. Jacki is now using a spirometer (a simple, small, hand-held plastic device with a tube and mouthpiece which measures the amount of air that is being
inhaled) to help clear her lungs. BTW, the spirometer is not used in place of the oxygen mask or nasal cannula. AND, the staff assisted Jacki in
standing twice!
When you consider the fact that Jacki was transferred out of the ICU less than 24 hours before-hand, I'd say that quite a bit was accomplished yesterday! Emily from Boston |

Dear Emily, THANK YOU very much for all the news about Jacki! As you know I went away for vacation to Greece, but lucky Ingrid kept me informed about the situation by sending SMS messages!
I was very worried about Jacki and feel relieved now to hear that things are going better every day and that she is out of the ICU. She sure is a strong lady and she will fight, although there is a long way to go for her.

Jacki update Sunday, August 9th early AM (Boston USA time) | ||

I received an e-mail from Jacki's friend Becky late last night. I am sorry to say that Jacki underwent unscheduled surgery
yesterday afternoon for removal of her gallbladder when complications arose causing Jacki to be in a great deal of pain. Her surgeon said that the procedure,
although long, went off as well as could be expected considering Jacki's fragile condition. For the present time, Jacki is sedated and re-intubated in the
ICU. If all goes well, the doctors are hopeful that Jacki will be transferred out of the ICU within a short period of time.

I am sorry to tell you that Jacki experienced problems with her breathing last night and the decision was made to transfer her back to the ICU; she is again sedated and intubated. Becky said that she was told 'Jacki's lungs are still very sick and they need some time to relax'.
Please continue to keep hoping for Jacki's recovery in your very best thoughts and wishes.

As of very early this (Friday) morning, the doctors felt
that Jacki was doing a bit better with the intubation in place. Testing yesterday revealed an infection for which Jacki
is now receiving treatment with antibiotics. Additional tests were run but the results are not yet available.
Becky will be away this weekend but always close to her
cell phone and home voice mail. She has promised to call me if she is notified of anything new in Jacki's
condition.
Please keep those very best thoughts, wishes and prayers
going for Jacki's safe and healthy recovery.

Jacki's condition is much the same as Friday. She remains sedated with the breathing tube in place. The infection is still present but improving.

Finally, some very positive news to report. The docs removed Jacki's breathing tube this morning. She is wide awake and
talking. The infection is improving as well. As Becky says "everything
else is holding steady".

There is more positive news. Jacki was transferred out of
the ICU late yesterday afternoon to a regular room. Per Becky, she in great spirits and is very motivated begin working again with the physical therapists to
regain her strength. Her new room # is 4614 (see above for the hospital address).
