Well, I'm waiting for the new album and think it will be very good :D I've loved all the solo albums so far, each one of them being better than the
previous! I think it's only good that MK makes different albums every time, and if I want to hear some guitar solos and licks, well then I just throw in
Alchemy or listen to bootleg from Sydney '86, for example. If MK would only do same kind of albums every time, like AC/DC does, it wouldn't be very
interesting...

Totally agree with you, olazabalrok, Mark's albums are always wonderful and different from the last, so I think the next one will please me too!

Re edge: Yes, I agree that most songs used to have a harder edge live, the slow ones included. Re genre: IMO genre is absolutely not important, but people on this forum ask for rock, and that is a genre. Down To The Waterline, Sultans and Lady Writer are fast songs, but not rock. IMO all songs om Making Movies exept Les Boys are rock songs regardless of tempo, but as a concept or as a whole, the albums sound and everything else has a rock feel similar to for instance Bruce Springsteens Born To Run or Darkness On The Edge Of Town. Re "just because the musicians involved think it is technically brilliant (which I'm sure it will be) this doesn't mean that the untrained ear of "Joe Public" like me will rate it higher than the former glories that I hold so dear": My point exactly! I couldn't agree more! All I want to point out is that we're talking about music MK made 20 to 30 years ago. He is a different person now and he doesn't look back, and he will never make such music again. The seventies and early eighties will not come back. These are just opinions (exept the tempo thing, that you can check with a metronome). I love the old Dire Straits records. What i don't understand is how people can expect rock tunes from an artist that is not a rocker, at least not anymore. And then be disappointed every time a new album comes out.

Yes, maybe we'll have a complete Alchemy with the missing songs as bonus on one DVD, The 2008 tour on another DVD, a press kit on a third DVD and the new
album as the fourth disc! (just speculations, of course) M :-)

"An autographed sweaty shirt" ROTFLMAO, that was excellent, rollergirl
I'm still at work and nearly burst out laughing
Autographed AND sweaty, yes, I think you can demand both for that price

At the amazon.com site they say now about the deluxe version that it has 2 CDs. I however would not expect too much: I think it is the album together with the
EPK DVD, dice and chips and that´s it...
Of course it would be nice if it was a Live-CD or DVD, maybe the best tracks of 2008, or the Boothbay-gig?? Amazon often changes the informations in this stade of release, so nothing´s for sure... (4 CDs, 4 CDs, 4CDs, 4CDs.... ....) Love Expresso |

Yes you are right.
But go and see someone like Ray Davies, or even Clapton, and you will see an acceptable way to integrate the old with the new. The old stuff isn't a dirty word to be ignored. It should be embraced, and made even better, whilst introducing the world to his new tunes. |

Yes, you are right :)
MK does play some of those old songs and an average concert goer will enjoy them but for us it's getting to taste the same because it seems he always plays those same old songs live nowadays. Even if he changes the arrangements they are still the same songs. I would love to hear something else instead of R&J or the boring TR of last tour. Well, you can't always get what you want... |

Well he could play this lot then !!!

How about this one:
1. Fare Thee Well Northumberland (10 minutes, Richard has his new bouzuki) 2. Border Reiver (Richard can play on his new bouzuki, MK plays on LP) 3.What It Is 4. Sailing To Philadelphia 5.True Love Will Never Fade 6.Cleaning My Gun 7. Hill Farmer´s Blues 8. Portobello Belle (Matt accordeon) 9. Romeo And Juliet 10. Sultans Of Swing (acoustic version!) 11. Monteleone (also acoustic, as a trio...??) 12. Boom, Like That (long intro, fat sound) 13.Speedway At Nazareth 14. Remembrance Day 15. Brothers In Arms 16. So Far From The Clyde 17. The Long Highway 18. Local Hero /Going Home Don´t as, it is just pure guessing of course, no I haven´t heard a single new track yet. But I have certain ideas how they COULD sound, just because of the sound of the track names... Love Expresso |

I don't wanna choose a tour setlist until i'll listen to "Get Lucky" at least twice.
Love will find a way

I like your set list LoveExpresso, but I wouldn't pay to watch it.
I would take half of it as a compromise, to see the half that I really wanted to see. The last show that hit the spot for me (set list wise) was the charity shows at Shepherds Bush. I would love to see that kind of set again. |

I agree with you, markp, when it comes to setlists. I liked what he did to the set of the K2GC tour though, because it was quite different and fresh. But I
think he could dig out many many more old songs. It's ok not wanting to look back, but is it better to play the same old songs over and over again...?

MK is blessed with loads of talent. If he doesn't want to play the "chestnuts" then I can appreciate that, but there are load of classics waiting
for their day, which haven't been heard in years. A bit like Clapton rediscovering Blind Faith and D&D, MK could do something similar.
